A Residential Family Centre provides a safe, supportive environment where families live while professionals assess parenting skills and capacity. Assessments are used to inform decisions made by courts or local authorities about a child’s welfare.

Will I be eligible for an assessment at Rowley House?

Eligibility is based on the needs of the family and a decision from a local authority or court. Each referral is reviewed to ensure Rowley House is a suitable and safe environment for the family.

Who refers families to Rowley House?

Referrals are typically made by local authorities, courts, or legal representatives involved in family proceedings.

How long is an assessment?

Most assessments last for 12 weeks, although this may be extended in some circumstances depending on the family's needs.

Who supports and assesses families?

Families are supported by qualified assessing social workers and experienced Family Support Workers, who work together to complete a comprehensive parenting assessment.

How is the assessment conducted?

Assessments involve daily observations, regular feedback, structured sessions, and multi-agency reviews. The process is transparent, fair, and centred around the welfare of the child.

What tools and methods of assessment are used?

We use nationally recognised frameworks, such as the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and Their Families, alongside tools like ParentAssess for families with additional needs.

How will you help me to develop my parenting?

Parents receive personalised support, practical guidance, and regular sessions to build skills, confidence, and understanding of safe and effective parenting. Feedback is provided in real time and through weekly reviews.

How will I know how my assessment is progressing?

Progress is shared through daily discussions, weekly feedback sessions, and formal review meetings at weeks four and eight.

How will decisions be made about my parenting?

Decisions are based on evidence gathered during the assessment, using observations, feedback, and professional analysis in line with national standards.

What happens at the end of the assessment?

A final report is completed and shared with the placing authority and the court. Families are supported through the following transition. 

Can my family and friends visit me?

Visits are allowed but must be agreed in advance with the placing local authority and included in the Placement Plan.
